Gotta Go

It sure didn’t feel like July the past few days. Temps in the low 80’s each day and nights in the low 70’s. So, why not go sailing. A pleasant breeze afforded a windward track across Mobjack Bay and into the Severn. A pod of porpoise played in Finches wake as we slipped into the anchorage. Try getting a photo is next to impossible as always while at the helm. The water was fine for a cool swim. Spent the remainder of the afternoon reading. Dinner was light. Tuna and crackers. Read until 10:00. Kept the 12-volt fan going to keep the nits away. There was no breeze after sunset.

Morning saw the moon reflected in the new deck hatch. Took another swim before coffee and grits. The sail back home under the gennaker for the first time using a sprit pole I had rigged to the foredeck as proof of concept. It worked! I was thrilled how the sail pulled us along in the light airs. Had it been a Code Zero, I may have taken the sail on up the East River until forced to go back to the furling jib. Got another list of mods for Finch and she’s back on her trailer till next sail.
